If you’re dealing with stubborn carpet messes, our carpet cleaning and stain removal will help you protect your flooring and keep it looking its best.
Step 1: Act fast
Time is everything. The longer a spill sits, the more likely it is to turn into a permanent stain. Whether it’s wine, juice, coffee, or pet messes, grab your supplies and get to work immediately.
Step 2: Blot, don’t scrub
Use a clean, dry white cloth or paper towel to blot the spill. Press gently to soak up as much liquid as possible. Never rub the area, as this spreads the liquid and can fray the carpet fibers.
Step 3: Work from the outside in
Start blotting at the edges of the spill and work your way toward the center. This technique keeps the liquid from spreading further into the carpet.
Step 4: Use a gentle cleaner
Mix a small amount of mild dish soap with warm water. Apply the solution to a clean cloth and dab the stained area. Don’t pour the cleaner directly onto the carpet, as this can oversaturate the backing and padding.
For organic spills (like food or blood), a vinegar and water mix (1 part white vinegar to 2 parts water) can work well, just be sure to test it on an inconspicuous spot first.
Step 5: Rinse the area
Once the stain is gone, dab the area with a clean, damp cloth to remove any remaining cleaner. This helps prevent residue that could attract more dirt later.
Step 6: Dry completely
Blot the area with a dry towel and, if possible, place a fan nearby to speed up drying. A wet carpet is a breeding ground for mildew and bacteria, so never leave it damp.
Step 7: Vacuum once dry
Vacuuming helps lift carpet fibers and restore the original texture after spot cleaning. It also removes any lingering dirt from the area.
Bonus Tip: Keep a Carpet Emergency Kit
Have a small kit ready with white cloths, a mild detergent, white vinegar, a spray bottle, and gloves. Being prepared makes all the difference when the unexpected happens.
